Wendy’s Goes Viral

In the wake of the whole severed finger debacle, fast food giant Wendy’s has turned to an online Flash animated short to help drive sales. McCann Erickson, New York, devised what they hope will become a viral campaign, and Hornet Inc’s Aaron Stewart (who was profiled here not long ago) provided the artistic and animation handiwork. The short features the classic Five Stairsteps song ‘O-o-h Child,’ and simplistic, dialog-free animation. In this short titled ‘Good To Be Square’ we watch as ‘Smart Square’ tours a vast red plane, helping circular shaped characters overcome daily issues. The Wendy’s brand is nowhere to be seen, and there is no link-back to the Wendy’s homepage. This all comes in advance of new Wendy’s TV campaign which will break during the season finales of American Idol, Lost and Alias. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if that campaign is a continuation of this one.
