The talented team at Toonbox in Russia continues to pump out 11-minute episodes of Qumi-Qumi, which air on a few networks, and also on YouTube for free. Here’s an episode titled The Cloudies:

Rich Releases MLP:FiM Student Episode – Double Rainboom

Back in February, we wrote about Zachary Rich’s graduation film, Double Rainboom. It’s one of the more unique approaches to a student film, because he reached out to Hasbro and got permission to create a 30-minute episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The big surprise (spoiler alert) is that he also employed the Powerpuff Girls. The connective tissue here is Lauren Faust, who wrote on PPG, and then went on to create and write on MLP:FiM. Only through animation is something like this legitimately possible. A student trying to recreate a live-action episode of Arrested Development wouldn’t be able to create an experience that even comes close to the original. Double Rainboom isn’t ready for TV, but it’s certainly in the ballpark, and quite an achievement.

Mouk Begins To Travel the Globe

Mouk (based on the book by Marc Boutavant) is a relatively new French TV series, and its animated by Cyber Chicken. I’ve confirmed that design is done in Flash, and I suspect animation is as well. Gorgeous layouts and colors.

Wartella Gets MAD For Cartoon Network

Mukpuddy Adds Pocket Protectors To Their Arsenal

The Mukpuddy gang has delivered a new cartoon series for New Zealand television. Pocket Protectors airs on Sunday monrings on TV2 at 8am, and the team used Flash and After Effects to put this 5 minute episode together.

Disney XD’s Motorcity Firing On All Cylinders

Titmouse is nearly set to roll-out their latest production model – Motorcity. This turbo-charged series premieres on Disney XD on April 30th at 9pm ET/PT, and it looks like a hit in the making.

The team has set a new bar for Flash character animation. While Titmouse is employing “re-use” techniques, you’d never know it, as the animation so full and fluid. There’s certainly a lot of drawing mileage going into each and every shot, and the facial acting is really elaborate and engaging. Of course, Flash isn’t the only tool being employed – the Titmouse team is using After Effects, Maya and Photoshop as well. Here’s a few shots from the show:

The Titmouse crew went into overdrive on the tech side too, creating proprietary Flash plug-ins and scripts to lubricate the production pipeline. For instance, here’s the ‘Facinator’ plug-in that allows an animator to quickly select a head position from a wide array of angles, somewhat mimicking a CG rig. The plug-in, which was built by Justin Putney @ Ajar, is displayed around the 1-minute mark:

The German studio Film Bilder is behind this Flash-animated series of shorts with a very long title - Tom & the Slide of Bread With Strawberry Jam & Honey. Andreas Hykade directed the latest episode titled Tom is Silly:

Tammemagi and Monster Orbit Cosmo

Hoping to introduce more children to astronomy, Jason Tammemagi has created Cosmo, a new Flash-animated series being produced by Ireland’s Monster Animation. Tammemagi, the creator of the preschool animated series Fluffy Gardens, is now leading the team into full-tilt production using Flash and Swift3D. Here’s a trailer:
